FOR THE SPRING PICK-UP FOR CITY OF BERLIN
GRASS/LEAF
PICKUP --
There will be a separate pickup for just leaves the week of April 14, 2008.
Ø
Leaves
will be composted. Consequently, keep
the leaves “clean” do not mix twigs and other rubbish with them.
SPRING RUBBISH PICK-UP -- Will be held the week of April 28, 2008. The schedule is:
MONDAY, April 28, 2008 The area south of Broadway and west
of the bridge.
TUESDAY, April 29, 2009 The area north of Broadway and west
of the bridge. This includes the mobile
home park.
WEDNESDAY, April 30, 2008 The area north of West Huron, east of the
bridge and west of N. Wisconsin St.
THURSDAY, May 1, 2008 The area north of East Huron and east
of North Wisconsin St.
FRIDAY, May 2, 2008 The area south of East Huron and
east of the bridge.
GENERAL
INFORMATION – In
order to cut the volume of waste materials going into the landfill, please keep
your rubbish separated. Please keep the
following in mind when placing materials out for pick-up:
Ø
The
purpose of the pick-up is to allow residents to dispose of general household
rubbish.
Ø
The
City reserves the right to limit how much will be picked up. Please call ahead if you are unsure.
Ø
All
materials must be at curbside by 7:00 A.M.
Ø
Separate
piles should be made for:
Bulky Waste
Metal items Lumber and wood products Appliances
Brush Leaves
and grass Furniture Demolition Waste
Ø REFRIGERATORS, FREEZERS, DEHIMIDIFIERS, MICROWAVES, and AIR CONDITIONING UNITS will be picked up for a $6.00 fee per appliance, which is due in advance, payable at the City Clerk’s Office.
Ø Tires
will not be picked up by the City.
You may dispose of your tires by taking them to
Valley Trail Landfill.
Ø Computer monitors and fluorescent light ballasts are hazards and will not be picked up.
Ø Rubbish that is not separated will not be picked up.
Ø
DO NOT
deposit material in the street area – KEEP it in the terrace area.
Ø
It
is unlawful to dispose of materials from non-residents of the City of
Berlin.
BRUSH
PICKUP --
You can help us improve efficiency if you follow these guidelines:
Ø
Pile
your brush neatly with all the cut ends facing the same direction.
Ø
Pile
a long, low pile rather than heaping it up.
Ø
Do not
mix small twigs, leaves, or garden vines with brush.
HAZARDOUS WASTE -- Hazard waste materials, paints, pesticides, herbicides, etc. will not be picked up.
The
summer program for grass clippings, leaves, and brush disposal will be the same
as last year, with limited
curbside pick-up on Tuesdays.
Ø
This
pick-up is intended mainly for the elderly and physically challenged.
Ø
This
will begin May 13, 2008.
Ø
This
is limited to grass clippings, which must be in containers or bags that can be
easily handled.
Ø
This
is limited to brush and branches of amounts that can be handled by hand without
the use of equipment.
To
have materials picked up:
Ø
Call
the City Garage at 361-5425 on Mondays between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:30
p.m.
Ø
DO NOT
call City Hall.
Ø
Materials
will be picked up on Tuesdays starting at 7:00 a.m.
Ø
Failure
to comply with conditions will result in the materials not being picked up.
Drop-off
at the City Garage on Saturday mornings:
Ø
Will
start on May 10, 2008. The garage will
be open between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.
Ø
Large
piles of brush may be disposed of by calling the Public Works Department at
361-5425
Monday thru Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to request a
public works truck.
Ø
There
is a fee of $20.00 for the first truckload and $10.00 for additional
loads on that same day.
The fee must be paid at the City Clerk’s office prior to delivery of the truck.
